Elizabeth Warren is running for President and opening campaign offices across California including in Oakland, CA. The Oakland office launch will take place this Saturday November 6, 2019 at 1:00pm and is located at 900 Alice Street in downtown.
This is not the first time Warren's campaign will come to Oakland. Warren held a rally at Laney College in Oakland on May 31, 2019 that received such a large turnout it had to be moved to an outdoor field to accommodate the crowd.
Senator Warren has been a powerhouse on the ground and on the national stage seemingly energized by any questions and comments directed towards her. She has laid out comprehensive policy positions on most major issues so much that "I have a plan for that" is becoming her catch phrase. She shows no signs of slowing down or being slowed.
Warren must still defend her record and policies to communities most marginalized and under served. This includes her problematic remarks about Native American heritage. However, she is gaining traction from Black leaders including the enigmatic Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley who endorsed Warren on November 6, 2019 while her most famous colleagues have endorsed Bernie Sanders. If she will gain the Black community's support is to be seen. Warren did make a strong showing at the April 2019 townhall hosted by She the People, founded by Oakland's own Aimee Allison. Warren has since added to her platform a position on addressing the Black women's maternal mortality rate and published an Op-Ed in Essence Magazine. However, as the Democratic party's history, demographics, and polling urges candidates to message only towards Black women, the candidate that understands we are a community and a collective that needs a platform and vision for all Black/Afrikan Americans will have the most success.
We will see if Warren can replicate her rally at the office launch planned for November 10, 2019 and how she will contend with opponent Kamala Harris who opened her office at the end of September 2019 in the same Oakland district. Warren's training will include a speaker line-up and election training beginning at 2:30pm.
